I have always wanted a studio, a place where I can go and create...make messes, do experiments...even throw paint...and now I have it. I built my own studio in 2003...and am loving it. Every morning in the studio, I let my imagination and the muses work their magic. Currently I have been experimenting with watercolors, and working on a personal journal.
When I start a project...after I know all the details from the client...I spend time letting the different concepts run through my mind. Lots of times this means a walk through some fun stores, museums, or galleries...or spending time devouring fashion magazines. I also have my favorite artists that I refer to for inspiration. Matisse's use of colors, Klimt's knowledge of figures and lavish attention to detail, and Gauguin's wild approach to his subjects...are all awe inspiring for me.
I usually get an idea when I least except it. so when the 'light bulb' goes off...I'm ready to begin. I sketch and sketch and sketch...(hence the reason I buy tracing paper by bulk). When I have a final drawing, I trace it onto a heavier pastel or watercolor paper and start the finished piece. My favorite part is seeing the sketch come to life.
For me, the 'joy is in the journey'. |
